We shot this Christmas family photography with the Schwartz family after they received the session as a gift. We had originally shot Jake’s sister’s wedding back in May, so it was really nice to see them again. This was a big mix of a family and kids session, shot at the kid’s grandparents’ house. I really like shooting kids sessions at houses they are familiar with because not only are they very comfortable in the setting, there are also new settings for us to shoot in as well. It’s always great to shoot sessions with children repeatedly because you get to see the children grow. The last time we saw Leo, he looked like Max, so I kept thinking to call him Leo. The last time I saw Max, he was only a few days old. His eyes weren’t even open. So it was really crazy seeing him crawling around now. He was super easy to work with in posed photos, whereas, his brother was the one that we shot more candid photos of, as he is a toddler now and gets more restless.
Household shoots make for much more organic experiences than the studio ones, which can be seen in the shots below. We got some great photos that were more posed, but then we had a lot of fun shooting photos of the kids playing with their grandparents, one another, their grandparents’ dog, Bella, and more. I very much encourage home shoots when you are working with children, especially if they are older than the baby stage where you can basically just pose them easily and they don’t get restless easily.
