Winter engagement sessions can be really iffy in the Midwest, mainly because you have no idea what the weather is truly going to be like. Regardless of if it is going to be sunny, snowy, or cloudy, knowing the weather would be fantastic. This February session took place during one of the warmest Februarys we can remember, so rather than having a snowy shoot, we ended up having hardly any snow and mud in exchange. Andria and Kyle were super cool about the weather situation and came up with the idea to do a shoot in their apartment, with a few at Lake Harriet. They are total geeks (just like us) which made it so much fun. A lot of people never like the idea of doing shoots in their homes, but I personally love it. Reason being, if you do a shoot in your home, it is that much more personal. You can look back upon these years later and think, “Here is our old apartment,” “This is the place we lived in when we were in college,” “This is where you proposed,” etc. There are all these things that you forget as you age, and having images of them is just as great as having images of yourself.
We did photos of Andria and Kyle with their cats, Ike and Storm as well as shots of them playing Munchkin, which was way too much fun. After that, we threw on our coats and went to Lake Harriet to get some more traditional, yet colder, shots.
