What is a wedding day emergency kit? Well, it’s pretty much exactly what you think it is. It is quite simply, a mix of items that will help make your day easier.
One thing to note is that people will put EVERYTHING in these kits. That’s unnecessary because every couple has different needs. We were married in 2007 and my sisters put together great kits that were both for the guests and for us. They were small, but just what we needed.
So the big thing to bear in mind here is what you need for your day. Don’t go overboard because it will just be one more thing to drive you crazy during your wedding planning.
In the following lists, I’ll break down a basic emergency kit that can be utilized on nearly every wedding day.
Below that, I’ll do some more specific items for say, different seasons and more. So here we go, in no particular order.
WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT
- Dental Floss
- Nail Clipper
- Crochet Hook
- Phone Cord
- Sewing Kit
- Breath Mints or Gum
As you can see, this one is pretty standard. As wedding photographers, we ALWAYS bring painkillers and antacids with us to a wedding. We don’t want anything in inhibit us the day of. We’re just working. Imagine if it was your day and you got a brutal headache. That’s no fun at all. Again, this one is pretty standard. Below, I’ll add in some extra things to add to it for specific weddings.
WINTER WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT (ADD ONS)
- Hand Warmers
- Moisturizer (you’ll need it more than any other time of year)
SPRING/SUMMER/FALL/ WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT (ADD ONS)
- Bug Spray
- Allergy Medicine
- Blotting Papers
DESTINATION WEDDING DAY EMERGENCY KIT (ADD ONS)
- Passports (if international)
- Scans of passports (if international)
Again, these are all based on your specific needs. However, if I was to pick ONE thing you absolutely need for the day regardless, it would be WATER. People often times forget how important water is, especially if they don’t drink it regularly. Whether it’s hot or cold outside, it’s easy to dehydrate. Also, people drink a lot of alcohol at weddings. Staying hydrated will keep you feeling good all day.
