Candid Wedding: Laura and Adekunle | Minnesota History Center | Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Laura and Adekunle’s wedding was the last wedding of our absolutely crazy busy July this year. I know I’m going to miss how busy we were when January hits and I’m wishing for photos to edit.   One of the best parts of the day was that Laura and Adekunle are totally candid with one another. They were very easy to photograph because they kept having fun with one another all day.

These two booked us roughly six months before their wedding, which is a rare thing for summer and fall weddings. Our Saturdays for those months typically book a year and a half to two years out, but we had their Saturday open, and we’re so glad we did. They are both such fun people and their day was great from the second we arrived.  It was crazy for us because it felt like their engagement session was done just minutes before their wedding, although it had been a few months.

The people in their party were joking around and having fun every minute and we just loved being around them all.  The two of them were so candid, but so were their friends, family and guests.  Clients are always wanting candid photography and that was super easy to maintain at their wedding.

It was a busy day, as they were married at a church in Richfield and their venue was in Saint Paul. We had helped them build a map of spots to shoot photos between the ceremony and reception, as we were going to be on the shuttle for four hours. Needless to say, we got to shoot at a lot of beautiful spots in Saint Paul, including the Witch’s Hat, the Saint Paul Hotel, and a bunch of other spots around the city.

Some awesome things during their day include the following:
  • Adekunle switched shoes during the reception so he could dance. I have never seen a groom do that.

  • Their venue had the BEST spot for a grand entrance. Everyone walked down a giant staircase and stopped at the bottom to pose. It was great.

  • When we were doing couple’s photos in Saint Paul, an ice cream truck pulled down the road. We bought them ice cream because we absolutely had to get those photos. It was a really nice break for them from shooting for a LONG time.

  • People started clinking the glasses at the reception and instead of having people do that for a kiss, they announced that they were going to have people make donations for them to kiss. It’s an awesome idea if you have a fundraiser or charity that really means something to you.

  • They were game for photos in all different types of light. We got daytime, sunset, and night photography for their wedding.
