Windy Winter Engagement Photos
There’s nothing more of a variable than Minnesota weather, let me tell you! These were probably some of the most windy winter engagement photos we have ever shot.
This session was originally supposed to be for the weekend prior. Then the weather for the previous weekend dropped to -14F. We got all excited because this weekend, it was supposed to be 24F. And those of you that are wondering how we could stand that weather, it’s thirty degrees warmer. You can tell.
Annie first contacted me after finding us on Google and only looking for engagement photos. The two of them are getting married out of state this fall, but wanted engagement photos here. We were happy to oblige. The trick was figuring out a date where the weather would cooperate. We both decided to do photos at Lebanon Hills because it was close to all of us and they liked the nature aspect. We all arrived at the session, got out of our cars, and were super happy about how much warmer it was than the prior weekend. Then the wind just whipped up. It was so brutal.
At first, we all tried to push through this. But if you’ve ever been in the middle of strong winter winds, you know you can’t do it. Kyle ran to the car to look for some gloves and I made a decision to move to a whole other area of the park. We went to a different spot with a tremendous amount of trees. It made ALL the difference. Totally different look, but we were all so comfortable and had fun. That’s the key. We wanted to make sure they were comfortable and the wind was making that so hard.
Annie and Kevin were great. They both were so candid with one another throughout the session. We always tell people that whatever they do in photos, it can’t be wrong because it’s them. The point of these photos is to show off you and your relationship. And if something just looks off in photos, we just get rid of the photo and you never see it. But being yourself and doing your thing makes for the best shots. That’s what they did. Annie kept telling Kevin how impressed she was with how well he was doing with it all. We joked that we were all having fun with photos as a distraction from the cold.
Just have fun with your engagement photography and any photography. It’s just photos – nothing crazy.
