The Crowne Plaza Minneapolis Northstar Downtown Hotel is amazing. The rooftop alone is incredible for your ceremony and photography. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony, it is certainly one to check out.
I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t one of the most intricate weddings we have ever shot. Take these factors into account:
- Thirteen hours of shooting
- One of us running on two hours of sleep
- Storms in the morning
- Sun breaking out minutes before the rooftop wedding (causing such high humidity)
- Twenty people in the wedding party
- A two tiered head table
But it was a lot of fun in the end and Kayla and Travis were wonderful to work with.
We first worked with the two of them with their engagement photography. We rarely reschedule engagement sessions due to weather. However, the night that they were going shoot, there was rain that turned into what looked like a hurricane. There were tornado warnings and everything. So we moved it and shot a sunset session for them in downtown Minneapolis later in the week.
Kayla and Travis had a great day, but their reception had to be my favorite part. Rather than do the traditional schedule of grand march, dinner, then dances, they did a grand march, had the wedding party circle them, and did a giant group hug with all their guests.
They then danced, having the entire room dance together. It was great way to start out the evening. They then ate and did the spotlight dances. Kayla has done dance her whole life and she and her dad did an awesome dance with Tom Petty music. That was so much fun. Their guests were on the dance floor all night, making for an amazing reception.
Congrats again to Kayla and Travis – you two are so much fun. 🙂
