One of the most beautiful types of weddings we shoot are Minnesota winter weddings. People may think this is crazy, as our winters are super unpredictable. However, there is something downright magical about them. The decor at Minnesota winter weddings alone make them.
Sarah and David were married on a cold January day in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It may have been cold, but it was nothing compared to the wedding the state had experienced over the last few weeks. I feel like we say that with all the winter weddings we shoot. And that may actually be true of them. However, days prior to their wedding, the Twin Cities had over a foot of snow fall within a day. We were unable to get out of our house due to the snow. So we were very happy that it wasn’t on the day of the wedding.
The two of them were excited because they really wanted the snow capped trees. It makes a huge difference when it comes to winter photography. I found this all really funny because I kept remembering when we shot their engagement photography. That day was one of the hottest and most humid of the summer. Just polar opposite days. Sarah and David booked two years in advance of their wedding day. It was crazy too because when we initially met, it was during the days of all the extreme pandemic short staffing. Our original meeting place was closed, so we had to go to another, which was closed, and finally found a BBQ place that we could go into.
I’m so glad they booked us because their day was so fun. They are both really sweet people and their families were great to work with as well. With so many people choosing the warmer months to get married, it’s always fun to see the difference of a winter wedding.
Highlights of the day:
– Crawling through the snow to get certain photos. It sounds awful, but there’s something about it.
– David’s uncle was the officiant. We love when the officiants are people that have a special place in the heart of the couple.
– In lieu of clinking glasses, in order to get the couple to kiss, you would give a donation to the Minnesota Audubon Society. I showed this to Kyle and he’s a total bird nerd. So he talked about it pretty much all day.
