Hidden Meadow and Barn Wedding Photography
We are so excited to be shooting a Hidden Meadow and Barn wedding. Seriously, we love barn weddings and we hadn’t shot at this one before. We had heard great things about it and we were so excited when we got the booking. Not only that, but Julia and Zach are awesome people. It’s just a great combo. Also, to those looking at this thinking these are just “moody” photos, no. This is what it looks like when a big storm is about to barrel down on your wedding.
There’s another reason I’m just so psyched I got to shot this. I say I, because I was diagnosed with cancer in April. There was a huge chance I wouldn’t be able to photograph this wedding. I would have had to leave it to Kyle solo, simply due to my treatment schedule. Thankfully, we got it figured out so that I would get treatment very early that morning. Then I would drive home, get ready, Kyle would drive us two hours to Wisconsin. Then we would shoot the day and drive back afterwards. Long day. But I’m SO happy that we made it work.
Back to the wedding stuff. Julia and Zach are such fun people. You only need look at their engagement photos to see that. If you’ve seen our blog from last year, you’ll know them as the people that got in the water. It was really humid that night and they just did it at the end of the session. Not only did they get in, they had a splash fight. Some of my favorite photos ever. They are great.
Day of – it POURED RAIN. As far as photos things go, we go their first look and couples photos done. When it was time to do wedding party photos, the thunder started and it was bound to rain at any second. Julia and Zach wanted to give outdoor photos a try so we flew through those photos. Got the last wedding party photo done the second it started to rain. While everyone was frantically moving everything from the outdoor site to the pavilion, there was a beautiful spot for us to do family photography. We are always so happy when a venue has good indoor spots because you never know what the weather is going to do.
It poured so hard for the next few hours. It was so loud. During cocktail hour, the rain let up, allowing guests to enjoy the grounds. It was such a lovely day. One thing I found when editing these photos was how wet everything was. And I’m not talking about the grounds. I’m talking about how the bridesmaids were standing at the ceremony with wet skirts. Then there were rain marks on the suits. There was rain everywhere. And no one cared. You know why? Because that’s not the important thing about a wedding. The important thing is the love and happiness.
Highlights of the Day
- They had their wedding on a Thursday. I don’t know what it is, but I’m starting to really like weddings that are not on Saturdays. It keeps me on my toes.
- Julia and Zach opted to add film photography to their day. We love doing film. It’s so cool.
- LOVE BARN WEDDINGS!!
- In replacement of a garter toss, they tossed T-shirts to the guests.
- One of the bridesmaids did the videography. When she was in photos and other things, her assistant took over. That’s dedication to admire there.
