Spearfish Canyon Wedding Photography

This was the first time we had ever done Spearfish Canyon wedding photography. We had originally met Deven at another wedding we had shot years ago. She and Ryan booked us to come out to South Dakota to shoot their wedding last year. We were really excited because if you have never been to this area before, it’s gorgeous. Prior to the wedding, we shot an engagement session with them last fall. The session was both an engagement session and family one, as their sons were present as well. It was nice getting to know them prior to the wedding. We always love getting to meet any family before the wedding. Then, the day of, we know more people.

So we drove out and spent a few days at the Spearfish Canyon Lodge. The wedding was at the falls about a mile from the lodge. The area was so beautiful, as you can see below. Originally, the ceremony was going to be elsewhere. However, after a walkthrough, they decided it would be far easier to do everything in the same spot. And it really was.

Highlights of the Day

Deven’s dress. Let’s just get that out of the way first because it is obvious how awesome it is. I didn’t know it was going to be black. It seemed to fit the surroundings so much better than a white one would.
Got to see one of our past couples – love that!
Deven and Ryan did their vows after their first look. And they were really good vows.
They made homemade donuts to give out to the guests. They were really good. Plus we grabbed a bunch for the ride home that night.
Deven did a dance with her son at the reception. It was really cute.
