Lea and Robert were married at Memories Ballroom in Port Washington, Wisconsin, a town Kyle and I had never been to.  We traveled to photograph their wedding, as we had also done with their engagement session the prior year. Although the wedding was in Port Washington, we did their engagement photos in Black River Falls, Wisconsin.

We arrived there the night before the wedding and went to check out the venue to look for good spots for photos the next day. Since Lea and Robert were not doing a first look, we wanted to get as much information as possible ahead of time, as the timeline would be tight after the ceremony for photos. We went to the venue, found some spots, and were all set. Then we went to dinner, which was actually by the water, which we had not seen. The town was absolutely adorable, so we were adamant that we would have to bring them there after the ceremony to get a ton of photos.

It was forecast to thunderstorm the day of the wedding. Much like a majority of the forecasts for weddings we have shot this year, it was wrong. It barely rained at all.  But the dark clouds were still there during couple photos, which made for an amazing look. Make sure you do your homework, photographers. It pays off. The wedding was a good one. Lea’s uncle was the officiant for the wedding, with it being his first one ever. He was the one that broke down when she walked down the aisle.  That was a surprise to all the other people who thought they would cry first. That was pretty sweet.

This was the first wedding this season where we were hired on to stay later.  As a result, we got a lot of photos of guests dancing and I have to say that their guests really took advantage of that dance floor. It was great from a photography perspective and also a really good party.
