This wedding was a total Minneapolis fall wedding.
On Courtney and Nick’s day, we started at the Hewing Hotel. For those that haven’t been there, it’s a cool spot. It embodies the whole Minnesota and “up north” vibe very well. Their getting ready time was really fun as their people were great to deal with. We got bridal party and family photos at Loring Park before heading off to the Walker Art Center for the wedding. The ceremony was absolutely beautiful on the terrace overlooking the city. For being the beginning of September, it was windy and chilly during that ceremony. I kept ducking in and out of the building beforehand to warm up. I can’t even imagine how cold Courtney and the bridesmaids were.
Courtney and Nick’s engagement session was similar to their wedding weather wise. The two actually live in Chicago, so they met us for coffee the day of the shoot and we all braved the cold in the Minneapolis morning on the bridges in the city.
Their room was gorgeous, again overlooking the skyline of Minneapolis. My equilibrium got really thrown off during the first dance due to the diagonal angle of the window. That was a little crazy. The day for us concluded with awesome night time photos in the Sculpture Garden.
Highlights of the day:
-
Courtney and Nick got ready at the Hewing Hotel. We hadn’t shot at the Hewing before and we were super excited. It’s a beautiful place.
-
We got to photograph in the Sculpture Garden!
-
There was an ice cream bar at their wedding. We have seen more and more of that and it never fails. Who doesn’t love acting like a child and pouring cookies and sprinkles all over ice cream?
-
Courtney and Nick didn’t want to do the cake smash, per say, but they like the tradition, so they put cake on each other’s noses. It was super cute – love it.
-
During their first look, they had a little audience because it was on the rooftop of the hotel. It was really fun. The people sitting up there were great.
