We value carefree couples, creating memories, and enjoying the moment

Barn Wedding Photography: Erin and Mark | Maple Plain | Minnesota Wedding Photographer

If there is one type of wedding photography we really love shooting, it’s barn wedding photography. Not sure why. Perhaps it’s all that growing up in the Midwest.  But there is something about barn wedding photography that just has a really cozy feel.  We love it. That’s why when Erin told us that she was getting married at her family’s farm, we were really excited to be able to document it.

Mark and Erin are actually from San Francisco.  So when we first “met”, it was over the computer screen.  It was rather cold here when we did that meeting too because I remember being jealous that she was in a warm place.  Typical Minnesota winter wishes.  We didn’t meet Mark until they came to Minnesota for the engagement photos.  That was also VERY cold.  We photographed their engagement photos in Saint Anthony Main and there was no one else out there.  There was so much snow and it was so cold, but it was still a lot of fun.

It was certainly warmer on their wedding day. Very windy, but much warmer, and humid.  I’m pretty sure this is our last warm wedding of the year.  This was an amazing day.  Everyone was so nice and wonderful to work with.

Highlights of the day

  • While not exactly a highlight, Erin was stung by a bee during wedding party photos. She took it like a champ, although we had to put the wedding party photos on hold for a bit.  I bring this up because it’s one of the zillions of things that can happen on a wedding day that can slow you down.  So ALWAYS have wiggle room in your timeline, please!
  • Erin and Mark are high school sweethearts.  They actually went to two proms together, so we re-enacted one of the photos they did at prom. Love that.
  • Does anyone else just LOVE when weddings use blue in their color scheme?  We just adore it.  It blends so well with greenery.
  • THE DESSERT TABLE.
  • Again, the weather. It was a little crazy that evening.  There was a storm that was just plain STUCK in the distance.  As a result, there was a huge storm cloud, but no rain.  One thing I found super cool was that during the speeches, there was thunder and lightning.  We were all in the tented reception area lit by candles listening to thunder.

Review from the couple: “Kyle and Tracy were a joy to work with! They were fun to talk to, responsive to how we wanted things to run, and really good at helping us pose and feel natural while taking photos. They worked with us on a very cold morning for our engagement shoot, and had a very fast turnaround. Our consultation for the wedding itself went smoothly. They made sure we had given them all the information they needed, gave us some quick tips and humorous disclaimers, and made us feel confident going into the wedding. Day of, they were on time and on task. They did a great job organizing the afternoon to make sure we got every photo we wanted, and were very creative in where we took pictures across the venue. We were particularly thrilled with how many good photos they got of our guests arriving! Again, the turnaround in editing was quick, and we were happy to see how easy it was to get the photos downloaded and backed up. Kyle and Tracy were the perfect choice for our wedding, and we appreciate all they did to make it special!”
